The things inside my head...
Quick question for the Whovians...

SPN holy shiz
I've seen every episode of new Who. I love all of the companions. They all have something about them that makes them special. And yes, I'm partial to Martha. And Jack. But, it doesn't mean I hate Rose and Donna. Again, I love them all. So, I'm just trying to figure this out: Why do so many people out there hate Martha so much? Is it because she came immediately after Rose and the absolutely adored Rose? Or is it because she's black? Help me understand....

I try to stay away from the in-fighting, but I think a lot of people don't like Martha because she came so soon after Rose.

My problem with that reasoning is that we don't really know how much time passed between the end of Doomsday, Runaway Bride, and Smith & Jones.

I like Martha. I think she's a strong character who's not afraid to call the Doctor on his BS. Rose was like that a little bit in the first season, but not so much in the second.

Donna...I didn't much care for Donna in RB, but I'm coming around to her now. She's smart (I thought she was brilliant in Planet of the Ood), and not interested in getting into the Doctor's pants.

Oh, I love Donna! I was really worried because I didn't like her in RB either. I was thinking that if she yelled like that the entire 4th season, I'd have to quit watching. But, she's brilliant! I loved her line in TSS when he thought she was leaving for good and he figured it out. So simple, "You're a dumbo...a great big outer space dunce!" She's great for him. I don't like the in-fighting, either. I was just wondering if Martha had done something I didn't know about. I like Martha, Rose, Jack (yum!), and Donna! My other favorite line of Donna's is in the icon. :-) Thanks!

I think it was just because she was replacing Rose. And I can't remember for sure, but I think at the beginning of season 3, we didn't know yet that RTD was making theirs an unrequited love story, so those who feel really strongly about the Doctor/Rose ship probably were afraid that the Doctor and Martha would act like he did with Rose, and so they took out their anger on Martha.

Personally, it was their mean remarks that made me love Martha from the start. She was being unfairly judged, and that made me want to love her all the more. It's also what made me start to dislike Rose into season 3. That and the Doctor comparing Martha to her.

It wasn't until I had myself a Doctor Who marathon before season 4 started that I remembered that Rose wasn't as bad as I had been thinking. It just goes to show how fandom can twist your views of things. I don't read as many essays or episode review posts as I used to because of it, unless they're from people on my flist, not in communities is what I'm saying. It's best to steer clear and not let my stance be tainted.

I have to agree. I think RTD may have been on to something when he said he didn't care what the fandom lists thought.

I know nothing of Who, but I decided to stop in and say hello.

Well...I can't really say who I like more. Not objectively anyway. I've just started watching it because I suck at fighting peer pressure on these sorts of things and I've only seen seasons 1 and 2 fully (just finished 2 yesterday). I've seen a couple episodes with Martha and one with Donna though. I don't like Donna, at least not in that episode I thought she was sort of annoying but then since I was totally out of the timeline of show that maybe it. What I've seen of Martha I like her. More than Rose? I don't know. Ummm...I have to mail back the season 2 discs to Netflix Tuesday so check back in a couple weeks after I've watched part of Season 3 and I'll let you know though...

I didn't like Donna in The Runaway Bride at all. She was very annoying to me. But, since I've seen her in s4, I've really enjoyed Catherine Tate's performance. As for Martha, I think the idea of unrequited love is more knowledgeable to me and I identify more with her on that level. Okay, and she's gorgeous, intelligent, and I'd kill to have her figure. :-) But, I like Rose, too. I don't get the whole hating one companion because you like another one. That's beyond me. Anyway, enjoy s3! Smith & Jones and Blink are my favorit episodes before the 3 part finale.
